A new approach for channel equalization using Wiener filtering

In this work we present one efficient structure based on Wiener filter to perform channel equalization in a block communications system. We show that it is possible to derive a structure to estimate a block of transmitted symbols that use the same Wiener filter to estimate all symbols in the block. In terms of bit error rate, experimental results show that the system performs better than Discrete MultiTone (DMT) for a wide range of signalto-noise ratios. A multistage Wiener filter recently introduced was used to implement a reduced-rank version of the equalizer, and the performance of the system was shown to remain almost unchanged for rank values much smaller than the signal autocovariance matrix rank.
